Learn More About Oregonia, OH
Oregonia is a community located in northwest Washington Township, in Warren County, Ohio, nestled along the east shore of the Little Miami River. Oregonia is roughly six miles south of Waynesville and about five miles northeast of Lebanon.
Oregonia’s was first settled in 1802. Back then, the community had a mill operating at various times by David Brown, Nebo Gaunt, and Ignatius Brown. In 1820, the community was called Freeport. In 1845, the Little Miami Railroad was extended to the village. The following year, historians say a post office was established there and given the name “Oregon.” The name was changed in 1882 to its current name, Oregonia. Since that time, however, it was closed and consolidated with Lebanon’s post office.
Currently, Oregonia is a quaint stop along the Little Miami Bike Trail, which runs along the abandoned railroad tracks parallel to the Little Miami River. Hikers, bikers, canoers and people kayaking frequently stop at the local market in Oregonia, or eat at the restaurant that is located along the trail. During October of every year, the community is home to the motorcycle hill climb known as the “Devil’s Staircase” which takes place on a hill just south of the main area of town.
